Corona, CA (PRWEB) December 16, 2008 -- Gilleard Market Research (www.gm-research.com) is releasing the findings of a survey of 300 respondents done in Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties on Attitudes and Concerns About the Environment (http://gm-research.com/environmental-report.php). One of the more noteworthy findings was that 81% considered global warming or air pollution to be an actuality and almost 65% thought that if the problem were not taken care of it would lead to the destruction of Earth or mankind.
The majority of people surveyed were active or willing to be active in helping protect the environment by doing domestic activities, mostly recycling, 68%, as well as about 15% conserving energy at home or saving gas by limiting the use of their car or getting a more fuel-efficient one. Only 3% considered that global warming could be caused by natural causes only.
The main ways to take care of global warming in the respondents' opinion is by developing alternative fuels and energy (19%), using more fuel-efficient or non-polluting cars (16%), by more education and raising awareness (15%), getting active (11%), tougher regulations (7%) and driving less (6%).
Aside from global warming, the other greatest concern to do with the environment was pollution in the air. This was an issue either because they consider air pollution leads to global warming or because of its unhealthiness. Relatively few respondents expressed concern about conserving natural areas or wildlife.
The primary objective of the survey was to help non-profit groups such as the Sierra Club to motivate more people to volunteer or donate. People selected for the survey had at some point been active in donating time or money to a non-profit organization. 300 adults were surveyed in all.
Topics included in the survey report are: all environmental concerns globally and locally; activity respondents are doing currently to protect the environment and interest and activities willing to do; knowledge and membership of environmental organizations; opinions of the repercussions of the different environmental problems and specific incidents of environmental abuse; and attitudes about global warming.
